Road cycling

Switzerland has a cycle network of over 9,000 kilometres. Maps and brochures as well as tour suggestions inform you of the most beautiful routes. You can find these items at railway stations or book stores.

The best way to find out where the journey goes on Swiss roads is to look out for the network of well sign-posted national cycling routes, and many regional routes. The routes mostly stay on paved roads, but they do occasionally use unsurfaced roads, for short sections. They avoid all busy/major roads, but sometimes do this to an excessive extent, which means that they often take you on a much longer, hillier route that has minimal traffic rather than a more direct and flatter route with moderate to heavy traffic.

Mountain biking

Switzerland is quickly becoming Europe’s mountain bike mecca, its popularity having grown at lightning speed in the past few years. Not surprisingly, as there are near-infinite opportunities to try out your mountain bike. In addition, the quirky charm of people in the mountain regions, living in a culture less touched by modern ways of living provides a unique environment for the mountain bike experience in Switzerland.
