Post is delivered at two speeds in Switzerland. "A-Post" or priority mail: if you post your card or letter by 18.00hrs (check that mail gets collected afterwards at that box, otherwise go to a post office), it will be delivered the following day. "B-Post" or non-priority mail: This option takes up to three days longer. Please mark your letters with "A" or "B" on the left-hand side of  the stamp.

  • Mail you get from abroad should have a ‘CH’ (Confederatio Helvetica ) before the town’s postal or zip code.

Our tip: if you mark letters from abroad with an "A", there is a chance that Swiss Post will deliver them more quickly.

Registered Mail

If Swiss Post is not able to deliver a registered letter or a parcel to the recipient due to the latter's absence, the postman will leave a pick-up note ("Abholungseinladung") in your letter box (details below).

Abholschein Englisch

With this pick-up note, you can collect the registered letter or parcel (1) within a certain time limit (2) - normally seven days - at the local post office (3). You will be required to show some form of official identification (4).

Registered letters, prosecution letters or writs are only handed to you when you sign personally and have appropriate identification documents on you.
