Public Transport

Tansportation 2

Switzerland offers all modes of transport. Not only is the road network highly developed and well maintained, but you also have a choice of excellent train connections, and of hiking and cycle paths. Even up in the mountains and on the lakes, transport is well organised. Many a little train or cable car will bring you to the top of a mountain, and the lakes and rivers are cruised by regular ferries and boats as well as heritage steamboats that are up to 100 years old. This incredible quality, however, has its price. You will pay for it in your vehicle tax and/or the pricey tickets.

Regardless of where you live, the country’s five airports ensure your next airport is never too far away. Especially the large airports at Geneva or Zurich can be reached easily by train. There is also a direct train connecting the two airports.

The Swiss are a highly mobile nation, so both public transport and the roads are busy and in constant use. This results in a constant development and renewal of the network, to ensure the system is operating despite the heavy usage.
