Crèches

Kita

There are widespread facilities available in Switzerland for very young children, and crèches will take children from 0 – 4 years of age. Their main function is to facilitate parents who are working, so they are often open from 7 am to 6.30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Parents can enrol children by approaching the crèche directly. Places are often in great demand and waiting lists are commonplace. This means that it is never too early to approach the centre, preferably during the pregnancy. Note that crèches will generally prioritise children who are living in the immediate region, so if you are local, your chances of a place will be better.

There are also a number of English-speaking crèches. The following is a selection:

Childcare in Switzerland is expensive compared to other European countries. An average day rate of CHF 120.00 is to be expected.

It his highly recommended to visit a crèche during the opening times to gain a true impression of its quality of childcare.
