around Zurich

Zurich

Uetliberg

The beautiful view from Zurich's local mountain, the "Uetliberg" (see "Planet trail on Uetliberg-Felsenegg" on this page).

Cruise on the Lake of Zurich

This cruise offers you many beautiful impressions of the shores along the slim, long lake of Zurich. The change in scenery when moving into autumn and winter is particularly worth while (please note the reduced timetable during these seasons). Passengers have a choice between long and short cruises, and there is a brunch and a lunch boat and other special cruises.

Cruise on the Limmat

Would you like to see the city from another perspective? In this low narrowboat with its glass ceiling, you can travel from the Swiss National Museum to "Zurichhorn" just past the mouth of the lake - expect first-hand encounters with ducks at eye level.

  • Departure from Landesmuseum, Homepage

Urania Observatory

Observing distant stars more close up and accompanying a comet on its journey around the sun are just two of the fantastic viewing experiences at the 48 metre-high round tower of the Urania Observatory.

Planet trail from Uetliberg station to Felsenegg

This walking tour takes about 1 hour. Apart from a magic view of Zurich, its lakes and the Alps, you will come away with a fascinating insight into the solar system. Each metre on the walk corresponds to one million kilometres in space. You will also gain interesting information on the individual planets, whose miniature models are placed along the path in proportion to their real distance to each other. At the end of the tour, a cable car will take you from Felsenegg down to the town of Adliswil.

Take the S10 from Zurich main station to Uetliberg, and the S4 from Adliswil back to Zurich

The top of Uetliberg is often just above fog level. To find out about the weather conditions, HERE.

If you're not into walking, just stay put and enjoy the view, or stop at the restaurant.

Acitivities further away

Kyburg Castle

150 metres above the Töss Valley, the walls of the most important castle of the feudal era in Eastern Switzerland, the Castle of Kyburg, tower over the onlooker. More than 800 years of private and public life have shaped this rich, historical monument. Take a moment to let your thoughts drift back to the romantic age of chivalry.

Silberweide - nature reserve by Lake Greifensee

The former petting zoo by Lake Greifensee has been turned into a park that brings visitors close to nature. The centrepiece of the park is an observation pavilion over a flat pool. From here, animals can be observed at a close range. Hunger can be stilled at one of the barbecue areas - bring your own sausages.

Walking around the lake of Zurich

This footpath can be divided into ten stages and will take you around the third largest lake in Switzerland. The main part does not follow the banks but leads onto higher paths and hills through ravines and valleys. The route offers a great variety and varying degrees of challenges; from easy 4-km long walks to rambling over the 1,026-metre-high Etzel mountain.

Hike to the Waldschenke restaurant on Altberg

Wether in summer or winter, this is a great destination for hiking. From the idyllic garden restaurant, hikers have a magnificent view of the Limmat valley. In cooler weather, the cozy restaurant invites you to come in and warm up.

Alp Scheidegg (Zürich Oberland)

The highest restaurant in the Canton of Zurich sits at 1,200 metres on a terrace with a truly splendid view and is a favourite destination in winter because of its sledging run. The enormous veal Cordon Bleu alone is reason enough to travel to this restaurant.
