Rigi
From the "Queen of Mountains", you'll have a fantastic panoramic view of the Alps, 13 lakes and the entire Swiss plateau area, as far as Germany and France. But it all starts with the two cog railway from Vitznau (first-ever cog railway in Europe, 1871) and Goldau, or the panoramic cable car from Weggis, making the entire trip and unforgettable journey.
Klewenalp
Beckenried, a holiday resort 435 m above sea level, lies at the southern tip of Lake Lucerne and at the foot of Alp Klewen, and offers a view of famous Mount Rigi on the other side of the lake. Above Beckenried, two additional sweet holiday places nestle on the panoramic terrace rising high above the lake: Emmetten and Seelisberg. There are cable cars connecting the family-friendly hiking and ski areas of Klewenalp and Stockhütte.
Beckenried is an ideal starting point for trips around Lake Lucerne. Scheduled boat trips and the car ferry from Beckenried to Gersau are one of the best ways to get from one destination to the other, including the majestic Mount Rigi on the other side of the lake.
Stanserhorn
There is a sense of nostalgia when you leave Stans on the original old-timer cable railway from 1893.
Travel with the original old-timer cable railway from 1893 from Stans to Kälti. Then get on board CabriO, the world's first double-decker cable car with an open upper deck (since 2012), to get to the top of Stanserhorn (1,900 m above sea level). In spring, summer and autumn, the diverse and unique Alpine flora will invite you and colour your walks and hikes in the region.
Engelberg – Titlis
The valley of Engelberg lies high up in the mountains and offers many summer and winter activities, but also invites you to relax and recharge your batteries.
The village of Engelberg features an impressive monastery and collegiate church. There are still around 30 monks living and working in the monastery. The "mountain of angels" (Engel-Berg), as the village was named by the founder of the Benedictine monastery in 1120, is a popular holiday destination especially coming from nearby Lucerne. There is a narrow-gauge railway along the road that takes you to Engelberg in an hour.
Welcome to the Swiss Path ("Weg der Schweiz")
The "Swiss Path" is a joint programme supported by all 26 cantons. It was established in 1991 on the occasion of Switzerland's 700th anniversary as a Federation. The Path is divided into 26 sections numbered according to the order in which the individual cantons joined the Swiss Federation. The length of the different sections is based on the number of inhabitants in the different cantons in 1991. This concept was developed by two architects, Stefan Rotzler and Peter Lanz. A special foundation was established to build the individual sections, and it is to this day operating and maintaining the entire network of path sections.
Stoss
The newly built cable railway from Schwyz up the local Stoos mountain is the steepest in the world. If you don’t suffer from vertigo, secure yourself a seat in the compartment at the front. The village at the top offers a number of activities and, of course, a beautiful panoramic view.
